Winter at Sky Pine Vineyards

By late November, early December, the leaf canopy has withered and dropped leaving the exposed cane wood. The ‘dormancy’ of the plant has arrived and it slumbers until next spring in a well earned rest. Pruning of the vines takes place now, cutting the 3 foot cane back to just two buds, leaving the small stump with the two bumps which contain next year’s future canopy and grape crop. It’s a welcome time of pause for the vineyard and staff, with time now to savor the vintage along with man’s best friend, while celebrating the holidays, and listening to the silence of the snow fall. For remember, in only 90 days, the cycle will start all over again!
